Turkish Coffee & A Court of Thorns And Roses
We all have phases, we all have that one thing we slowly become addicted to, and then leave. Caffeine, books, music, love, television, drama, you might not think you have a say in your choice of poison, and maybe in some ways you don't, but you choose your dosage.
A Court of Thorns and Roses, (pictured below - how about that awesome card I drew myself huh?) much like Turkish Coffee, is one thing that absolutely must be taken in small doses, and always with a plate of sweets. This novel is intense, and rightfully so, just like the rich aroma and taste of the strong brewed coffee in my tiny cup.

The main reason this story is taken in small doses is simple enough. To savour it, to remember it, and enjoy it. Let's face it, we all get sucked into a really good novel or series that we rarely want to stop to do anything else. I first read this novel back in 2016. I read it in bed, in the car, and any spare moment I had between classes. Months later I completely forgot about it. I remembered the general plot...just not all the details that actually shape and beautify the story itself. A huge shame.
Now, reading the second installment in the ACOTAR series, amazingly named A Court of Mist and Fury, my eyes dance differently on the artfully written pages. This time a slower dance, a more languid sip, no more nocturnal readings to get to the finish line. The sweetness of the yummy Turkish delight only matches the sweetness found between the pages of the main leads in this saga. As I had hurried through the first book, I'd forgotten how powerful, slow, and intense love can be illustrated in a Young Adult novel, a fact I had finally found again in the second book.
The characters are powerful, and develop exquisitely as you read along, this is one heck of a story. What I loved the most about it, is that just like my first impression of both Turkish Coffee & A Court of Mist and Fury, is that the taste and the story still continue to surprise me. One thing is for sure, every cup and every chapter is deliciously different. And considering we have another three books in this series yet to be published (the fourth comes out May 2018 ) I think taking our time here is more than a good idea. Hats off to Sarah J. Maas for these great books.
So grab a cup and copy of this series. Until then,
here's to roses.
